Airtime Time a cellular phone is using radio channels to
communicate with a cellular phone system, whether a call is placed or received by the cellular phone. Airtime is usually free for busy or unanswered calls.
Digital Multi-Network A mobile phone that is both dual mode and dual band. This is useful if you move between areas covered by different networks. These phones
are sometimes called “Dual-mode Dual-band” phones.
Dual band
A mobile phone that can work on networks that operate on different frequency bands, such as 800mhz systems and 1900mhz systems. This is useful if you move between areas covered by different networks.
Dual mode
A mobile phone that operates on both digital and analog phone systems. This allows you to use your phone in areas that do not have digital phone service. This is useful if you move between areas covered by different networks.

Expanded home rate area - Usually areas adjacent to
the system to which you are a subscriber. Free minutes that come with your calling plan may or may not be are available in this area, depending on your service plan. There are no roaming charges in this area.

- The term for having your residential long distance bill and wireless telephone service bill sent to you on one combined statement.
Home rate area
- Usually the home system to which you are a subscriber. Free minutes that come with your calling plan are available in this area. There are no roaming charges in this area.
Li-Ion or Lithium Ion
- a type of battery. Li-Ion batteries hold more power for their size than NiCd or NiMH batteries. They do not develop a memory and always accept a full charge.
NiCd or Nickel Cadmium
- a type of battery. NiCd batteries are subject to a memory effect if they are recharged without being fully discharged.
NiMH or Nickel Metal Hydride
- a type of battery. NiMH batteries hold more power for their size than NiCd batteries. They do not develop a memory and always accept a full charge.
PCS
Personal Communications Service is a digital system that supports a number of features, such as message waiting notification and SMS messaging.
SMS
or short message service available on digital networks allowing messages of up to 110 characters to be received on your mobile phone. Messages are stored if the phone is off or out of reach To use this service, it must be supported by your network and by your phone.
Standby mode
When a phone is switched on but not being used for a call, it is in standby mode.
